Lessons from nature
I've recently rewatched the documentary series All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace. It really is a wonderful series with so much content it deserves a few watches. The music and footage and how it's put together makes it such a pleasure to watch that you want to re-watch it anyway.
One of the key messages of the second part is about how we have misrepresented nature. Early ecology science made it out as though ecosystems self organised to maintain equilibrium. That they were always working toward returning to the status quo. When in actual fact, they move toward chaos. They're in a constant starter of flux. When faced with a catastrophic event they completely reorganise.
Resisting change has become normalised behaviour. People need to actively overcome this to progress and embrace change. But doing so maybe against what they think is their nature, and may make them uncomfortable.
